AC2019: #7 – CONAM Collecting School Supplies at AC2019

The Committee on Native American Ministries (CONAM) of the California-Pacific Conference is collecting school supplies for Sherman Indian High School in Riverside, California, at their booth at Annual Conference 2019. Sherman Indian High School houses students from all over the United States. CONAM has been supporting the students with items not available to them on campus, and beyond the ability of most of their parents or family members. Comforters have been provided to help make the dorm rooms a little more like home and a bit less industrial. Beach towels have been given so the staff can plan beach and other off-campus trips. Bureau-of-Indian-Affairs-provided towels are not allowed off-campus and resemble a poor quality gym towel.

The church has not had a good name when it comes to Indian Boarding Schools. Native American UMC of So Cal and other Cal-Pac UMC’s are working to change that long standing historic image. This seems an easy Act of Repentance, in which we can all participate.

The following are items being collected:

  • School supplies, such as
    • #2 pencils
    • colored pencils
    • college ruled composition notebooks
    • college ruled paper
    • 3-ring binders / notebooks
    • backpacks
  • Beach towels for field trips and everyday use
  • Comforters for Twin XL (extra long)
  • Snacks
