Bishop Hagiya’s Announcement on the Associate Director of Lay Leadership and Age-Level Ministries

We have learned of the voluntary resignation of Demetrio Beach this past week.  I am sharing Demetrio’s own explanation of the reasons:

I am writing to inform you that I am resigning my position as Associate Director of Lay Leadership & Age-Level Ministries effective immediately today. Although I have enjoyed working with the staff, clergy and laity of the annual conference, personal reasons necessitate that I vacate my position and focus on improving my situation with family. Despite having to leave, I deeply appreciate the opportunities the annual conference provided with me during my time as Associate Director of Lay Leadership & Age-Level Ministries. These 90 days has truly blessed me to know that we have amazing laity working throughout the annual conference for the name of Christ Jesus.

I sincerely hope that you will keep Demetrio and his family in your prayers.  The twists and turns of life are ever present for all of us, and we pray for Demetrio in this season of challenge and difficulty.

I also ask that we as a Conference would be in prayer about whom God might be calling to lead in this important area of ministry.  A new version of this position will soon be posted, a role which will be critical to our ability to achieve our vision as the California-Pacific Conference of The United Methodist Church.

Blessings,

Bishop Grant J. Hagiya
Los Angeles Area Resident Bishop
