Bishop Hagiya’s Announcement on East District Superintendent

I am pleased to announce that I intend to appoint Rev. Melissa Roux MacKinnon as the next Superintendent of the East District of the California-Pacific Conference, effective July 1, 2018.

Rev. MacKinnon has been serving as the Lead Pastor of Santa Clarita United Methodist Church since 2010.  Previously, she served at Church of the Good Shepherd United Methodist (Arcadia, CA) as well as Elon United Methodist Church (Elon, NC).

Rev. MacKinnon has also served connectionally on the former Pasadena District Committee on Camping, the Board of Ordained Ministry as the Provisional Registrar, and the Professional Consultation Committee Admissions Task Force of the Methodist Hospital’s Clinical Pastoral Education Program.  Currently, she serves on the North District Committee on Ordained Ministry and she is involved in the community as a member of the Board of Directors for Santa Clarita Family Promise.

Rev. MacKinnon earned a Master of Divinity from The Divinity School at Duke University and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from California State University Bakersfield.

I am extremely excited about Rev. MacKinnon joining our Appointive Cabinet.  Melissa brings a wealth of both pastoral experience and Board of Ordained Ministry oversight to this role.  She has grown the local churches she has served and is totally committed to the growth and vitality that we are seeking as the California-Pacific Conference.  I am deeply grateful that she has accepted this new role in a challenging, yet exciting time in the life of our church!

I also celebrate the many accomplishments of Rev. Jan Wiley.  As she enters into retired relationship with our Conference, she is quick to share that she was ordained 37 years ago and that her tenure as District Superintendent has been a time of learning and sharing in working for vitality.  In her own words, she says, “I know that for the rest of my life, as I drive through the East District, I will remember each and every church!  I am so grateful for the skills and caring heart that my successor will bring to the East District.  My prayers continue for God to bless you!”

Let us embrace both of these leaders in prayer and a welcoming spirit in this time of transition.

Be the Hope,

Bishop Grant J. Hagiya
Los Angeles Area Resident Bishop
