The California-Pacific Annual Conference is looking for an Associate Cook for its Camp Cedar Glen, Julian, CA location. As a member of the Cal Pac Camps staff, the Associate Cook assists in the preparation, cooking, serving, dishwashing, and clean-up of meals for guests and site staff. Assist in cleaning all facilities between groups, according to the established standards of cleanliness. Assists in accommodating guests in safe, clean and comfortable surroundings, supports guest groups’ programs, and enhances guests’ enjoyment and camp/retreat experience by performing the essential duties. The position is a full-time, seasonal (3 months), non-exempt, regular position, includes housing and reports to the Site Director.

Essential Responsibilities

•Washes, trims, cleans, peels, etc. vegetables, poultry and meats.
•Cooks or heats food for meals.
•Performs cleaning functions as needed.
•Stores and takes inventory of kitchen equipment and food.
•Washes dishes and stores them in appropriate storage area.
•Cleans cabins, rest rooms, hallways, dusts furniture, washes walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, door panels, and sills.
•Empties and washes wastebaskets and trash cans, and transports trash and waste to disposal area.
•Replenishes rest room supplies
Other Duties
•As a part of the Aldersgate Retreat staff, perform other duties as assigned to fulfill the overall ministry of Aldersgate Retreat, Cal-Pac Camps, and the Cal-Pac Conference.

•Position involves some travel outside of Cedar Glen to meet with summer camp and retreat leaders and volunteers and Cal-Pac Conference churches.

Specific Job Knowledge, Skill and Ability

•Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and documents such as recipes, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
•Ability to write simple correspondence.
•May directly supervise one or more support staff employees in the Food service department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Conference policies and applicable laws.
•Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, and other employees of the organization.
•Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
•Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
•Ability to operate and maintain, or ability to learn to operate and maintain tools, equipment and vehicles used in the performance of this job.
•Be able to use tools and equipment, machines and vehicles to include: commercial and / or residential type mixers, dishwashers, food processors, conventional and / or convection ovens, knives, meat slicers, microwave ovens.
•Be able to use materials such as oven cleaners, dishwashing compounds, floor and toilet cleaners.
•Ability to complete and process forms & reports including menu plans, vendor delivery invoices, and work orders.
•Possession of a “hosting mentality”, and ability and willingness to serve a broad range of guests and programs.
•Possession of the ability and willingness to accept direction and supervision.
•Possession of the ability and willingness to win and hold the cooperation and goodwill of the people served and of associates.

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES

Possession of or ability to secure and maintain Food Handler’s Certificate
Community CPR Certification
American Red Cross Standard First Aid Certification (or equivalent)

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
Graduation from a culinary institute or equivalent
At least two years’ experience as an Associate cook/chef
