A Communications and Innovation Guide to

Going Digital

Perspectives

Situations & Strategies

Situation: For a church with knowledgeable volunteers or some staff, but also a close-knit church membership.

Strategy: Make available a catalog of inspiration and perspectives on a wide breadth of topics and the present human experience and draw in a crowd through search optimization as well as social media referral – being “present” for people depending on their need.

Setup: 1) go live on Sunday morning (Facebook) with a good church sermon that leads people into more specific, but also 2) on demand, content through shortform podcasting during the weekdays (Anchor) and blogging (Medium) on everyday matters, 3) giving coming in online (Paypal) or by checks mailed in, and 4) meetings virtually (Zoom).

Situation: For a church without support staff, but with a strong message for people beyond “the four walls…”

Strategy: Center the life of the church around engaging, live content – basically, around whomever is the person who will make content – that is able to effectively connect with everyday people and invites people to “live with” that person.

Setup: 1) go live on Sunday morning (Facebook) with a skeptic-friendly sermon, but also 2) live on the weekdays (Instagram) with content on everyday matters, 3) giving coming in online (Venmo) or by checks mailed in, and 4) meetings over the phone (Freeconferencecall).
