The purpose is to teach pastors of vital congregations, administrators and leaders who are responsible for church revitalization and new ministries new models of community development, relationship building and ministry financing that is manifest with an increase of church attendance and new memberships.
Led by Rev. Mark E. Whitlock, Jr. of Christ Our Redeemer (COR) African Methodist Episcopal Church (Irvine, CA), this event will provide teaching methods of community development that connects the local church with community partners that assist with distribution and funding of services.
Rev. Whitlock is currently Senior Pastor of COR, a church which began with five people and now has a membership of 3,700, a staff of 30 persons, and 40 different ministries. COR’s Community Development Corporation, its non-profit arm, owns eleven apartments, a sports camp program, small business loan fund, youth entrepreneurial training program, banking on your success training program, and youth summer enrichment math program.
Rev. Whitlock has a dual career as the Executive Director of the USC Cecil Murray Center for Community Engagement. The Cecil Murray Center has educated over two thousand pastors, executive directors of community development corporations, and non-profit board members on community development, civic engagement, and financial literacy.
