Urban Kids Camp Ministry A Single Day Fun Event is a Service Project, Growth & Engagement, Fun Competition & Creative Arts event. This event is sponsored by the Cal-Pac Committee on Camping, Outdoor and Retreat Ministries, the Cal-Pac Urban Camp & Retreat Ministry Task Force, and Sherman Oaks UMC. 

Theme: “Giving Back”

Keynote Text: Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. – Matthew 25:40

Schedule:

• Service Project (9 AM – 11 AM): Assembling hygiene kits* for the unhoused (“homeless”) in our community
• Eat & Engage (11 AM – 12 Noon): Pizza & Salad lunch with a follow-up camp discussion about “Branding Your Purpose” by “Giving Back” with leaders & trailblazers in their field
• Fun (12 Noon – 2 PM): Nerf War Competition II in SOUMC’s large hall (masks required for competition) featuring:
  ◇ Capture The Flag
  ◇ Last Man Standing
  ◇ Body Guard/Secret Service
  ◇ Rescue the Prisoner
• Creative Arts (2 PM – 3 PM): Young People & otherwise are encouraged to share Spoken Word, rap, artwork, skits, videos, poetry relating to our theme “Giving Back” and our keynote text Matthew 25:40… plus a bonus: mini JAM Church Concert!

Masks are required for everyone during this event, both for outdoor & indoor portions. Anyone arriving with symptoms of COVID-19 or showing symptoms during the event will be asked to go home for their safety and the safety of the community.

All adult leaders/chaperones need to have current clearance by “Safe Gatherings” and provide either your vaccination card or a recent negative COVID-19 test result.

*Hygiene Kits: Participants are encouraged to bring items or make a donation at the event that will make up the hygiene kits. Donations can also be dropped off at Sherman Oaks UMC in advance of the event. Travel-size items include: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razor, combs, nail clippers, sunscreen, rain ponchos.

These hygiene kits will support the NoHo Home Alliance Drop In Access Center in North Hollywood.
