BASIC COURSE FOR LAY SERVANT MINISTRIES

Session 1: Friday, October 11, 2019 (6:30 PM – 9:00 PM)
AND
Session 2-5: Saturday, October 12, 2019 (8:30 AM – 5:30 PM)

Cost & Deadlines: $35 through September 23, 2019. No late registrations. Fee includes light lunch, participant’s book, and instruction.

About the Course & Instructor:

• Beth Brainerd Hallock has been a Certified Lay Speaker/Lay Servant since the mid-80’s. Beth has taught numerous lay speaking courses and has spent many years teaching DISCIPLE Bible Study I and II. Beth has served throughout the years as a lay servant through both paid and unpaid staff and lay positions. Beth currently serves as Church Council Chair, Sunday School teacher and coordinates the UMC of Vista Outreach Ministries program working with both local and global agencies. Beth works professionally with Interfaith Community Services as the leader of the Senior Services program.
• Barbara Mitchell, too, has long been a Certified Lay Speaker/Lay Servant. Along with her husband (now deceased), Barbara served as District Lay Speaker Coordinator for several years, as well as on the Conference Laity Board. She continues to serve on the District Laity Board. Along with facilitating numerous study classes at her church where Barbara has long served, she has taught several lay speaking classes over the years. Barbara currently serves as Evangelism Chair and Membership Secretary. Barbara is a retired teacher of Severely Handicapped from the Vista Unified School District.
• About the BASIC Course:  A Basic Course is required for the Local Church Lay Servant Certificate. The Basic Course for Lay Servants is the first course one takes to become a Local Church Lay Servant to prepare for the servant activities in the local church. The course introduces the stated purposes of Lay Servant Ministries such as caring, leading, and communication. This course will use the Lay Servant Ministries: Basic Course. Completion of this course is required before taking an advanced class.
• Participants must attend both days to receive course credit.
• No childcare is available during this course.
