Cal-Pac Teams Help Rebuild in Weed, CA

The Weed Long Term Recovery Group was formed with the help of UMCOR and Habitat for Humanity in the wake of the Boles Fire of September, 2014 that damaged or destroyed some 150 homes in this northern California community.

In response to their request for teams, the First United Methodist Church of Seal Beach sponsored an UMVIM recovery team.  The team was sent May 14 through 21 in 2016 to help with the rebuilding.

The team consisted of 10 folks from Seal Beach UMC and 1 person from Trinity UMC, Chico.

At the first site, the work accomplished included bathroom tub wall replacement, front storm door replacement, clean out of the cellar, clean-up of the yards, removal and hauling of construction and cleanup debris, and exterior painting. At the second site, work included footing trench digging and rebar and forms work was accomplished. One rainy day was spent organizing the local Habitat for Humanity warehouse.
