Connectional Table: Carrying Forward Cal-Pac’s Vision

newsIn just a matter of days, the California-Pacific Conference Connectional Table will convene for its November 2015 meeting to share strategic initiatives decided upon from each major area of ministry throughout the Conference.

This sharing of strategic initiatives was agreed upon by the Connectional Table at the September 2015 meeting in an effort to focus and put into practice the vision statement of the California-Pacific Conference.

The September 2015 meeting also included the sharing of important updates on Conference ministries:

  • While a resolution (15-11) on the California-Pacific Conference becoming a “Reconciling Conference” was passed at Annual Conference 2015, Judicial Council Decision 847 does now allow for a Conference to identify as such.
  • The same resolution (15-11) includes the estabilshment of an LGBTQ task force which is in line with reaching out to all God’s people. The Justice and Compassion Essential Ministries Team will oversee its establishment including any financial impact in its work.
  • As of September 2015, this year’s apportionment giving was 0.7% ahead of the previous year’s apportionment giving. 13 churches are at 100% apportionment giving, six of them from the Hawaii District.
  • The ongoing Imagine No Malaria initiative is currently at $1.2 million in total conference giving, with the goal being $3 million. The district with the largest amount given is the South District ($451,000), followed by the West District ($270,000), and then the North District ($244,000).
  • The Acts of Repentance carried forward from Annual Conference 2015 to the Clergy Convocation where a workshop was held. District Superintendents were asked to bring the work of Acts of Repentance to each district. And, the Conference Committee on Native Americans was to be invited to the next meeting of the Connectional Table.

The Connectional Table was established at Annual Conference 2015 as the Conference body that would “focus and guide the mission and ministry of The United Methodist Church within the boundaries of the California-Pacific Conference.” (RC 15-15)

The vision of the California-Pacific Conference is to inspire the world as passionate followers of Jesus Christ so all my experience God’s life-giving love.
