DisAbility Ministries Task Force Awards Accessibility Grants

On November 1, 2016 the Disability Ministries Task Force of the California-Pacific Annual Conference awarded five grants to churches as seed faith money to implement accessibility projects. Grant recipients are California Heights in Long Beach, Emmanuel in San Bernardino, Santa Clarita, First UMC Costa Mesa and St. Paul’s in San Bernardino.

Their projects include construction of ramps, accessible restrooms, and railings on the stairs to the chancel. Some of these projects are only one piece of long-term goals to become more accessible!
The Task Force looks forward to hearing more about these projects as they progress. We are grateful to God for the opportunity to be of help in building God’s realm on earth as it is in heaven.

The members of the Task Force are Sharon McCart (chair), Kathy Meier (project leader), Diane Mettam, Peggy Gott, Fran Mattera, Lupita Alonso, Steve Poteete-Marshall, Nicole Jackson, Heather Kinkennon and Erin Maddox McPhee.

This is the first time that accessibility grants have been offered by this Task Force. 26 congregations requested applications, so there is significant interest in accessibility projects and there have been requests for consultations following the grant deadline. The key to continuing these grants is to receive donations to designated funds.
