Sample Local Church Abuse Prevention Policy Now Available

In an effort to assist our churches in the development of abuse prevention policies, a sample policy has been developed and is now available via the button below and as a resource at

In the sample, there are references to Safe Gatherings certification, and some of the basic standards shown are taken from Safe Gatherings training. However, a church may use and adapt the sample to align with whatever abuse prevention program exists at the church.

The attached example of a local church abuse prevention policy should serve only as an example to assist local United Methodist Churches in developing their own policies. Once such a policy is developed, it should be recommended by the Staff-Parish Relations Committee and approved by the charge conference, then implemented in each local church. The example provided here is not mandated by the California-Pacific Conference, nor is it warranted as being legally sufficient or appropriate for each local church. It is not intended to represent legal advice.

Further information is on the policy document itself.
