Kardia UMC Packs Sack Lunches with Love

Story submitted by Kardia UMC Community

Kardia UMC started a sack lunch ministry in the midst of the pandemic. The outreach team figured out how to serve people during the pandemic without serving them on campus. The team asked volunteers to bring sack lunches with a sandwich, water, and some fruits and snacks. What started out as a pandemic food ministry is still thriving today.

Kardia has served so many communities with these sack lunches. Kardia has brought together so many people due to these sack lunches. We have had youths and families make lunches as a community. We have had small groups from church make lunches together as a fellowship. We have had volunteers of all ages come and distribute these sack lunches. We have served the unhoused, the Veterans at the VA, the workers around the community, and students. What started as a way to feed a dozen or so individuals, we are now serving as many as 100 individuals each time.

The sack lunch ministry provides much needed nutritious food and we do our best to fill in the gaps when and where we can. Most of all, the sack lunch ministry has brought together community, especially within the congregation of Kardia UMC.
