Continued Compassion: Korean Caucus Contributes Another $6,000 to Wildfire Relief

Report provided by Rev. Dr. Brian Suk-Boo Lee, Chair of the Cal-Pac Korean Caucus

On Sunday, May 4, I attended the 1:00 PM worship service of Altadena United Methodist Church at Scott UMC along with several representatives from the Korean Caucus. Bishop Dottie Escobedo- Frank also joined us for this meaningful occasion. During the service, the Cal-Pac Korean Caucus presented a donation of $6,010 to the Altadena congregation to support recovery efforts from the LA Wildfires in January.

The caucus offers our heartfelt condolences to all who have suffered due to the recent wildfires. In the face of this unexpected disaster, we share in the pain and loss that so many have experienced, and we continue to lift you up in our prayers.

On January 13th, under the leadership of the Korean Caucus, a national prayer gathering was held via Zoom with UMC Korean clergy and laity from across the country. We were deeply blessed to have Bishop Dottie Escobedo-Frank join us, share the Word, and pray with us.

Following that gathering, January 26th was designated as a Special Sunday of Prayer and Offering for the LA Wildfires. Many churches across the nation participated in this effort, offering prayers and special donations. Through their generous support, we were able to assist members of our Korean United Methodist congregations who were directly affected and provide support for those impacted within our annual conference.

As a first step, the Korean Caucus delivered $17,597 and gift cards to the California-Pacific Annual Conference. This donation was presented to Bishop Escobedo-Frank in March.

Now, as a second step, we were honored to present $6,010—raised with love and support from Korean brothers and sisters across the nation—directly to Altadena UMC.

It is our sincere prayer that this small heartfelt gift will bring comfort and strength to all members of the Altadena UMC family. The Korean Caucus, along with our church communities, is committed to praying for healing and recovery. We stand in solidarity with you and the wider community.

Please remember—you are not alone. We walk with you toward the light of new hope beyond this time of darkness.
