Camp work day might not be the first thing you think about for Holy Saturday, yet that’s where a group of over 30 people found themselves. Before mulching, painting, repairing, and clearing, the workers gathered for instruction and devotion.
Cal-Pac Director of Camping Kenny Funk and Camp Wrightwood Program Manager Caitlyn Anderson welcomed the group. In a brief devotional, Anderson articulated the connection and the sacred work of the day. On Holy Saturday, “God was not inactive. Jesus’ body lay in the tomb, but His mission was still unfolding. Redemption was taking root even in the silence,” Anderson said. “Today…we’re mirroring the heart of Holy Saturday. We’re doing the quiet work that sets the stage for transformation. The paths we clear, the cabins we clean, the things we fix they’re not just chores. They’re seeds of ministry, laid in faith, believing that God will meet every camper who comes here.”
Opportunities for getting involved are plentiful: Join a camp cleanup & create a campership for a camper of your choice, become volunteer staff for a week (or two!), encourage a child or youth to attend camp, and more! God will not only meet every camper who comes, but all who participate in this important Kin-dom building work. The next workday at all three conference camps is May 10th.
