A Light Shines in the Darkness
An Advent Gathering of Prayer & Solidarity for Palestine and those in ICE Detention
When: Sunday, November 30th at 4pm
Where: Lakewood First United Methodist Church, 4300 Bellflower Blvd., Lakewood, CA 90713
As we enter Advent, the season when we dare to look for light in the world’s deep shadows, we gather for a service of lament, prayer, and solidarity. This service seeks to hold a gentle but unwavering light to the suffering of our global and local communities: to the people of Palestine enduring a genocide, and to our immigrant siblings living under the fear and trauma of ICE detention.
Together we will kindle a light, fragile but fierce, against despair. We will commit ourselves to stand with the oppressed, to amplify stories too often silenced, and to embody the Advent promise that a new world is still being born.
This gathering is both a vigil and a call: to hope, to action, and to the kind of solidarity that reflects God’s love made visible in the world.
Featuring guest speakers:
- Hedab Tarifi, Palestinian-American Community Advocate
- Ryan McGurk, Jewish Voice for Peace
- Mercie Macatarao, Harbor Area Peace Patrol
