Call for Volunteers to Join the Cal-Pac CA Legislative Advocacy Team (Justice & Compassion)

Cal-Pac California Legislative Advocacy Team:
Affordable Housing, Homelessness, and Food Security

First Meeting – Wednesday, March 1 @ 6:00 pm PST on Zoom
http://www.calpacumc.org/advocacyteamsignup

We all know that affordable housing, homelessness, and food insecurity are painful, urgent needs in Southern California. State legislators are working hard to change laws and provide incentives that would prioritize solutions. As people of faith, we have the power to influence the legislative process, not only with our prayers of Thy Kingdom Come, but also with our votes and voices.

When you join this Advocacy Team, you’ll be invited to monthly advocacy meetings, where you’ll receive policy updates from experts, along with action items for you and your church. You’ll find out which institutional partners and legislators share your faith-based priorities, and which ones need some convincing. Here is an opportunity to step into both personal and social holiness.

We’ll begin with SB4, which would clear obstacles that prevent us from building affordable housing on land owned by faith-based institutions.  Policy advocates are actively organizing around this now! Join in the action!

SB4 Presenters on March 1:

  • Mahdi Manji, Director of Public Policy, Inner City Law Center
  • Frank Martinez, Policy Director, Southern California Association of NonProfit Housing (SCANPH
