This lectureship was endowed by the late Dr. Clarence & Caroline Britt. It is a yearly program held during President’s Day Weekend in Honolulu that invites a special guest speaker to lead in these lectures to provides continuing education opportunities for clergy and laity in the Hawai`i District of the California-Pacific Conference of The United Methodist Church.

“Flourishing in Ministry” with Dr. Chris Adams

The 2024 Britt Lectures will be held in person. There will be a Q&A after each evening lecture and refreshments will be served. We hope that you will join in this public event.

  • Basement parking entrance of FUMC of Honolulu on VICTORIA ST is available. Additional parking will be made available at the HOMA Parking lot, east of FUMC of Honolulu (entrance on KINAU ST.) Street parking is also available (metered parking will not be in effect in the evening).
  • For neighbor-island clergy only: The cap amount for airfare reimbursement is $200, and cap amount for airfare reimbursement for those traveling from Guam is $1500. In order to receive your full airfare reimbursement, you must attend all sessions & workshop of the Britt Lectures. No exceptions.   • For those seeking CEU (continuing education credit): Please look for Winnie Ching to have your attendance recorded for each day. Your CEU certificate will be presented to you on Monday after the morning workshop concludes.

Dr. Chris Adams grew up in a music ministry family in the Nashville area and is a third-generation pastor’s kid. An ordained minister, clinical psychologist, and leadership coach, Chris served in full-time music ministry for several years after graduating from college, as an associate pastor at a large church during and after seminar, and a college chaplain for almost a decade. Chris is currently serving as the Executive Director of the Mental Health and the Church Initiative at Rosemead Graduate School of Psychology, Biola University, and teaches ministry leadership and pastoral care/counseling courses for several seminaries. Chris is a consultant to a number of denominations and seminaries in the areas of clergy candidate assessment, clergy health, and pastoral leadership formation, and is a consultant, researcher, and writer with the Duke Clergy Health Initiative and the Flourishing in Ministry project. He is the Ministerial Assessment Specialist for the Cal-Pac Conference, and has served for many years on the Advisory Committee for Clergy Candidacy and Assessment at UMC GBHEM. Chris is a frequent lecturer at seminaries, retreats, and conferences. He enjoys music (especially jazz), tennis, pickleball, coaching soccer, scuba diving, and playing with his two kids (Lexi, 13, and Cole, 9). He and his wife, Lori, live in Sierra Madre, California.
