Followed by Part 1 (April 10, 2021 PDT & HST; April 11, 2021 ChST), this event is open to members from all California-Pacific districts.

“Leading With Possibilities”

The West District invites all clergy and local church leaders to participate in this year’s leadership workshops. Please gather at 8:30 AM (PDT), with an opening at 8:45 AM. We will then have a Grounding Session together, followed by a Learning Session (choose from 2 options). For those who miss the Opening & Grounding Sessions, a recording of them will be rebroadcast at 11:00 AM.

Please RSVP to any and all Sessions you wish to attend.

The Zoom links for the Grounding Session and Learning Sessions are all included in your confirmation email. 

  • Technical requirements: To participate in Zoom meetings, participants must have a reliable Internet connection, and a laptop, tablet, or smartphone device that can download and install the Zoom app. A web or phone camera and a microphone are highly recommended, although some users may call in via phone if a mic is not available.

 

Workshop sessions:

  • June 12 (8:45 – 9:30 AM PDT) Grounding Session: “Equity, Advocacy and Belonging” by Giovanni Arroyo

Exploring the impact of structures and systems when they are shaped by those most affected

As the team leader for program ministries, Giovanni develops and designs initiatives related to the vital conversations priority of GCORR’s ministry model as well as serves as point of contact for partners and stakeholders across the connection at the General Church and Annual Conference levels. Giovanni also administers the CORR Action Fund program (Minority Self Determination Fund Grant).

  • June 12 (9:35 – 11:00 AM PDT) Learning Session Option 1: “Writing Your Story” by Susan Shankin & Sara Volle

We all have a story to tell. Explore the fundamentals of memoir writing, storytelling, and learn about strategies for launching your project from idea to completion. This workshop will include time for participant sharing and Q&A with the co-facilitators.

Susan Shankin is a publisher, creative director, and book designer with over 25 years of experience working in the publishing industry.

Sara Volle has a Master’s degree in English and is an editor and writing coach. Susan and Sara both have a passion for helping clients achieve success at all stages of the writing and publishing process.

  • June 12 (9:35 – 11:00 AM PDT) Learning Session Option 2: “Effectively Leading Others During a New Normal” by Linnie Carter, Cynthia Butler & Sabrina Richardson

Linnie Carter will focus on leading work teams; Cynthia Butler on leading spiritual teams; Sabrina Richardson on leading children.

When Linnie S. Carter, Ph.D., APR, refers to ‘hitting it out of the ballpark,’ her clients, colleagues and students know that something very special is about to happen. Dr. Carter is a seasoned public relations executive, entrepreneur and educator with a renowned work ethic, where excellence is expected and nothing less is accepted. 

Trainer, Facilitator, Activist – Cynthia Butler brings over 35 years of Federal, community and faith-based activism and training experience to her current role of entrepreneur, senior consultant, human capital strategist, lead trainer, and facilitator. 

After more than 21 years in education, Sabrina Richardson has continued to be a champion for children who are constantly counted out based on their socio-economic status. Born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia, Sabrina is determined to encourage children to reach their full academic potential and remind them that their zip code does not determine their place in this world.
