Call to Prayer: Two Hurricanes Approaching Hawaii

Bishop Minerva G. Carcañoprayer calls the California-Pacific Conference of The United Methodist Church to prayer for Hawaii as two hurricanes, Iselle and Julio, approach the islands.

Hurricane Iselle is expected to make landfall today and Julio sometime this weekend. In addition to the hurricanes, Hawaii experienced a 4.5 earthquake today in Waimea.

“We are preparing physically, but we are especially preparing spiritually.  God will get us through every challenge,” said Rev. Dr. Tom Choi, Hawaii District Superintendent, with whom Bishop Carcaño has been in close touch since yesterday.

In addition to local support, the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) has offered assistance as required.

Let us keep our brothers and sisters on the Hawaiian islands in prayer this day and in the days to come, that the presence of God would strengthen and encourage the people of Hawaii.
