The Collective Table: Parents of LGBTQIA+ Children Online Group (San Dieguito UMC)

It’s no secret that the Christian church has struggled with its acceptance and understanding of the LGBTQIA+ community. It has been a complicated and, at times, detrimental relationship. Through various church teachings and biblical interpretations many view homosexuality as incompatible with Christian teaching.

To be clear, The Collective Table does not believe that to be true. We believe that God created all of our LGBTQIA+ siblings to be of sacred worth, dignity and beauty. Furthermore, we believe that God delights in their sexual orientation and gender identity.

However, it can be difficult to unlearn harmful theologies alone. This can be especially painful for parents who have children identifying as LGBTQIA+.

So if you have a child who is part of the LGBTQIA+ community (no matter what age) and are looking to relearn biblical and theological teachings, we would love for you to join us for an online 11-week book study/support group. These 1-hour long Zoom meetings will begin on Wednesdays, starting January 25th, at 7:00pm.

There will be an information introductory session on Wednesday, January 18th, at 7pm.

The group will be led by Rev. Chelsea and Della Stewart, a parent of a child in the LGBTQIA+ community.

If you are interested in joining, please email info@TheCollectiveTable.org. This invitation is open to all. You do not have to be a member of TCT or any church to join us.

When: January 18 – May 5, 2023, 7 PM PT
