Call for Post-Flood Recovery Teams in Arizona (Disaster Response)

Widespread flooding has occurred, affecting the Chinle Chapter of the Navajo/Diné Nation in Arizona. With many homes flooded and damaged and the monsoons just a few months away, the Desert Southwest Conference of The United Methodist Church is seeking help with additional teams from out of the Conference. Also, individuals may join an already existing Desert Southwest team. Our California-Pacific Conference team leaders will need to get insurance via UMVIMWJ.com/insurance.

The first team will be going to Chinle, AZ, from June 29 to July 4, 2023.

Expected Responsibilities of the Volunteer:

The work will mostly be cleaning up mud and debris, hauling out damaged furniture, carpeting, appliances, etc., and removal of damaged drywall.

Volunteers will need to bring sleeping bags and air mattresses. Showers will be available.

Expected Qualifications of the Volunteer:

Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age. Otherwise in reasonable physical shape as the work can include a fair amount of dragging and lifting.
